Marketing and Communications – Leduc Arts Foundry

Please consider me in your search for a Marketing and Communications Coordinator.

While completing my Art Education degree at the U of A, I took numerous studio courses in drawing, photography, painting and art history.

On graduation, I joined The University of Calgary as a Communications Officer II. In this position, I worked with university administrators to implement communication plans for students, staff and the public. I also served as co-editor of the bi-weekly tabloid, Gazette My article on digital mapping, New ways to slice the mapping pie and its accompanying illustration is an example of my feature writing. I also wrote personal profiles, like that of Beatrice Medicine, and provided photography, illustration and design skills for newspaper pages, posters and brochures.

After almost five years with the U of C, I accepted a position as a Journalism Instructor at Grant MacEwan, where I taught newswriting, graphic design and photography, among other subjects. Relocating to BC, I served as Western Editor for Canadian Forest Industries Magazine in Vancouver and worked as a weekly and daily reporter in Nanaimo. As Marketing Manager for T-MAR Industries in Campbell River, I used my artistic skills to develop customer surveys; produce advertising copy, brochures and videos and to design trade show booths. I also launched the company newsletter, The T-MAR Times.

In 2002, I began 10 years of teaching, primarily art and mathematics, in Libya, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Norway, the UAE and Japan. I taught art to students from grade-three to high school. In addition to developing my own art lessons, I taught the Irish Leaving Certificate, IGCSE and International Baccalaureate PYP, MYP and Diploma Art Curricula. I enjoyed helping students of all levels to explore their creativity.

A highlight of that period is a student-illustrated video of my children’s story, The Apple of Albert’s Eye, which visualizes my belief in a connected world. Working with my young students and encouraging them in the development of their illustration skills was a challenging and rewarding experience. Part One appears below on the webpage for this application. Follow the link above for the complete video.

Returning to Canada in 2012, I relocated to Prince George, BC and served in a variety of positions including as a Community Care Aide and Licensed Property Manager. In both these positions, I learned new data management and record keeping procedures, including invoice tracking and payment.

I also continued to explore my interest in making art, either for my own personal interest, on a commission basis or as an entry in various art competitions. In Prince George, I completed a major outdoor installation, The Spirit of Prince George, 2015, for Timberspan Wood Products. Another highlight of this period is the production of my Happy Face Series. An example of an art submission is my proposal to paint a mural for the City of Richmond. I have a working knowledge of MS Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Illustrator, Photoshop, WordPress and Movie Studio.

Working with a designer, I launched my WordPress website to highlight creative abilities in writing, photography, art, music and video production. I believe I have the expertise necessary to handle the “back end” of your website. I have my own blog and twitter account and some familiarity with google analytics.

You seek someone with a willingness to learn. Whether it be how to use a special crimping tool for wiring or a new software program, I enjoy the challenge of learning something new.

You mention shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit a 1-3 minute video to “share what they bring to the table, and why you want to work for our organization”, which I would be pleased to do. You might enjoy my video application for the position of Traveling Ambassador for Air Transat, shot in Dubai.

I believe my experience in communications and marketing, combined with my lifelong interest and involvement in the visual arts, makes me an ideal candidate for the position of Marketing and Communications Coordinator. Accordingly, let me suggest we meet to discuss the contribution I could make to the Leduc Arts Foundry in filling this important and exciting role.
