Please consider me in your search for a Coordinator, Residence Community Life. I believe my combination of experience in international and college level education; communications; community service and demonstrated personal initiative and problem solving skills, combine to make me an ideal candidate.
My Education Degree from the U of A, led me to over 10 years of teaching kids from grade-three to adult in seven different countries. While overseas, I developed curricula, educational materials and assessments for many different educational programs including the Irish Leaving Certificate, IGCSE and PYP, MYP and Diploma Baccalaureate. In the UAE, I worked to develop a curriculum for the instruction of vocational mathematics and co-wrote a series of workbooks and assessment materials in support. In Mongolia, I worked with my senior students to complete the rigorous requirements of the Diploma Art Programme. In Saudi Arabia, I produced a film, The Apple of Albert’s Eye, using student illustrations provided by my grade-seven classes.
Two of my students from Libya.
Returning to Canada in 2012, I worked as a Residential Care Worker for the Prince George Association for Community Living and Thomson Community Services, serving clients with varying degrees of physical and cognitive challenges. In addition to preparing meals and administering medications, I provided informal counseling and alerted supervisors when clients became agitated and sometimes suicidal. Training provided included St. John’s First Aid, CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Foodsafe Level 1 and WHMIS. After my return, I also completed the first year of the Hearing Aid Practitioner Program at MacEwan and the Residential Property Licensing examination at UBC, two demanding online study programs. I also launched my website jamesmillercreative.com to highlight my creative talents in writing, painting, photography, videography, music and graphic design. My art emphasizes the positive and my Happy Face Series is a good example.
My communications background includes time spent as a Communications Officer for The University of Calgary; a Journalism Instructor at Grant MacEwan Community College and a Writer/Editor for various commercial publications. I have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
