Content Creator/Marketing Assistant – Travel Buggy

Please consider me in your search for a Content Creator/Marketing Assistant.

I have extensive experience with photography, videography and am proficient in creating brochures and other marketing materials using Illustrator and Photoshop. The video editing program I have been using is Vegas Pro (once owned by Sony) which allows for immediate upload to YouTube and Vimeo. I have experimented with Clipchamp and am also familiar with Microsoft Office and WordPress. Here’s a gallery of just some of my photos. The first highlights my Photoshop skills.

You seek someone with strong verbal and written communication skills. Consider my video application for the position of Traveling Ambassador for Air Transat, which I scripted and edited in Dubai.

After completing my Education degree at the U of A, with a major in Art Education, I joined The University of Calgary as a Communications Officer II. As co-editor of the U of C bi-weekly, Gazette, I researched and wrote news and feature articles on tight deadlines and often delivered technical information to a more general audience. My article, New ways to slice the mapping pie, and its commissioned illustration, is an example. I also supplied photography, illustration and design skills.

After almost five years with the U of C, I accepted a position as a Journalism Instructor at Grant MacEwan, where I taught photography, newswriting and graphic design. One of my photographs was added to the college’s permanent collection. Moving to Vancouver, I joined Southam Business Communications as Western Editor for Canadian Forest Industries Magazine and, in Nanaimo, I freelanced my writing skills for The Nanaimo Business Examiner and Nanaimo Daily Free Press.

My editorial skills can come in handy. For example, I noticed a typo error on your website in the following passage. Can you spot it? I’m not saying I’m perfect, but I have a sharp eye and a creative mind, which I can put to work for you.

BUT THERE’S MORE! We increased the backrest the height by 5″ over our first CITY model.

Oops! I just spotted another:

by 25 lbs maing the heaviest loading piece only 40 lbs.

Maybe my first task should be going over the text on your website and other marketing materials.

As Marketing Manager for forest equipment manufacturer T-MAR Industries, my duties included photographing inventory and placement on the company’s website; producing advertising copy, brochures and videos; conducting customer surveys and launching the company’s newsletter, The T-MAR Times. I also designed the company’s annual trade show booths for the Truck Loggers Convention and was project manager for the company’s participation in DEMO 2000, a live forestry exhibition in the BC interior.

A downturn in the industry led to 10 years overseas teaching in Libya, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Norway, the UAE and Japan. In addition to producing videos of graduation ceremonies, I also produced a student illustrated video of my children’s story, The Apple of Albert’s Eye. Other highlights include the production of the video in for the school production of The Rocky Horror Monster Show, shot in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and God is Love, which I produced with my students in Al Ain, UAE.

Returning to Canada in 2012, I relocated to Prince George, BC and launched my WordPress website to highlight my creative abilities writing, photography, art, music and video production.  I use my blog to promote my art and my philosophy that life is an essentially positive experience. My video, Brand New Song, featuring my music and vocals, uses video and still images shot while overseas and in Prince George, references my belief in a better world.

I believe my extensive experience with photography, videography, marketing, advertising and commercial writing makes me an ideal candidate for this position. Accordingly, let me suggest we meet to discuss the contribution I could make to Deol Creative in this position. I am available immediately.

Sincerely,

James Miller
