Housing Coordinator – Adecco

Please consider me in your search for a Housing Coordinator in Gold River.

After 10 years teaching overseas, I returned to Canada in 2012, and located myself in Prince George, BC, where I launched my WordPress website to highlight my creative abilities in writing, photography, art, music and video production. I use my blog and twitter account (now X) to promote my work and my belief in a better world. I have a working knowledge of MS Office (including Word and Excel), Illustrator, Photoshop, WordPress and various video editing programs.

In May, 2016, I joined Pace Property Management in Prince George, BC and was immediately enrolled in the Residential Property Management Course offered online by the Sauder School of Business at UBC. I successfully passed the exam on my first try and received my two-year license to “Provide Rental Property Management Services”, October 19, 2016. My duties at Pace included all aspects of property management referencing the BC Residential Tenancy Act: showing properties, vetting tenants, preparing leases, calculating and properly implementing rent increases, handling collections, arranging for maintenance (including getting quotes), safety testing, managing disputes (including hearings with the Residential Tenancy Board), and conducting move in and move out inspections. Pace used the Propertyware property management software.

While in Prince George, I also worked as a care provider in group homes for adults dealing with various cognitive and physical challenges for the Prince George Association for Community Living (AiMHi) and Thompson Community Services. Informal counseling was a significant part of my role and I worked with clients (many of Indigenous descent) dealing with drug and alcohol dependencies and mental health issues, including autism and depression. In addition to preparing meals according to a nutritionist’s specifications, I drove clients to various appointments and helped them develop individual recreational programs. For my work with AiMHi, I completed a five-day training program that included: St. John’s First Aid Certificate (CPR), CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Foodsafe Level 1 and WHMIS.

In August, 2018, I joined Advanced Property Management in Courtenay, BC, and served as a Licensed Property Manager with the company until resigning my position in February, 2019. My duties at Advanced included the same property management duties as I had with Pace Property Management. Advanced used the Tenant Pro property management software.

Prior to teaching overseas, I traveled to Gold River while Western Editor for Vancouver based Canadian Forest Industries Magazine to research and write an article on a pulp mill there. I can still remember my amazement at the complexity of the huge operation. While with the CFI, I wrote on all aspects of the business including harvesting, safety and milling.

Later, settling in Nanaimo, I freelanced as a weekly reporter for The Nanaimo Business Examiner, writing business-related articles and worked as a reporter for the Nanaimo Free Press. My Nanaimo experience also included owning and operating Val-Pak, a direct-mail advertising franchise, where I provided customers an all-inclusive service: promotion design, leaflet printing, distribution, and redemption analysis. As owner, I negotiated all sales contracts.

In Campbell River, serving as the Marketing Manager for T-MAR Industries, I promoted the company’s existing inventory of logging products from log loaders to road builders to grapples and helped promote new product additions. My duties also included conducting customer surveys; producing advertising copy, brochures and videos; purchasing company swag and launching the company’s newsletter, The T-MAR Times. I also was project coordinator for the company’s participation in DEMO 2000, a “live forestry” exhibition in the B.C. interior.

Moving to Edmonton, in April 2021, I secured summer employment at the Mustard Seed downtown church building as a part-time, casual Janitor, through Bissell Employment Services. That fall, I served as a Janitor at the Mustard Seed administered homeless shelters at Knox Evangelical and Strathcona Baptist churches. In this position, I interacted with shelter clients and staff on a regular basis. When that temporary position ended in the spring, I joined Horizon North as a Janitor working at fire-base camps during the summer of 2022 where I was a janitor and also cleaned and prepared rooms for occupancy. I then trained for and worked as an Industrial Janitor at the MEG Energy site at Conklin Alberta. Most recently, I have worked as a Second Cook at the MEG site and Cenovus Energy camps near Fort MacMurray. My shifts are 14 days in (10-hour days) and seven days out, with two of those seven days for travel. I am familiar with living and working in remote locations.

I believe the wealth of property management, communications, education and project management experience combine to make me an excellent candidate for this position. Accordingly, let me suggest we meet to discuss the possibility of joining Adecco as Housing Coordinator in Gold River.
