Tutor – Tutor Teach

Please consider me in your search for a Tutor.

As my resume details, I have a wide range of teaching experience.

After completing my Education degree at the University of Alberta (while also serving as a writer/production editor for the Students’ Union, Gateway), I joined The University of Calgary as a Communications Officer II. As co-editor of the bi-weekly, Gazette, I proofed the work of other writers and contributors and researched and wrote copy covering virtually all Faculties. My article, New ways to slice the mapping pie and its accompanying commissioned illustration and my profile of new staff member, Beatrice Medicine, are two examples. I also supplied photography, illustration and design skills to further market the university to its various communities.

Except for 10 years overseas teaching, I have lived in Alberta or BC. I have a keen interest in the region’s development, history and art history. While at the U of C, I completed university courses in Art & Architecture Canada: 1870 – 1960+, Topics in Prairie Canada (with Grant MacEwan) and Communications Research Methods

After five years at the U of C, I accepted a position as a Journalism Instructor at Grant MacEwan, teaching newswriting, photography, graphic design and mass media. Moving to Vancouver, I served as Western Editor for Canadian Forest Industries Magazine, providing copy on all aspects of the business including harvesting, safety and milling.

My international art teaching experience began in Tripoli, Libya where I taught art to students in Middle and Upper School at ISM International School. My Upper School students were taught using the Irish Leaving Certificate, which included instruction in Art and Art History. I next taught IGCSE and IB PYP, MYP and Diploma Art at the International School of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, where I guided my students through the rigorous IB Diploma Art exam process. Moving on to the International School of Jeddah, KSA, I taught A-Level, IB Diploma and Middle School Art and Middle School Mathematics and then joined Kongsberg International school, teaching IB MYP Art and Mathematics. After teaching Vocational Mathematics and Secondary School Mathematics in the UAE and Japan, respectively, I returned to Canada in 2012.

While teaching overseas, I provided private tutoring, mostly in English and Mathematics, to middle school and high school students, primarily in Libya and Saudi Arabia.

I returned to Canada in 2012, and launched my WordPress website to highlight my creative abilities in writing, photography, art, music and video production. I use my blog and twitter (now known as X) account to promote my work and my belief in a better world. I have a working knowledge of MS Office (including PowerPoint), Illustrator, Photoshop, WordPress and various video editing programs.

I’ve been no stranger to the educational process since returning to Canada. I completed the first year of the Hearing Aid Practitioner Program at Grant MacEwan University and, later, the Rental Property Management and License Course with the Sauder School of Business. For my current employer, Horizon North, where I now work as Second Cook, I’ve completed courses in Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ), Food Safe, Workplace Violence course, H2S Alive and the AMA Defensive Driving Course.

I’m looking for work that allows me to use my teaching skills and to stay in Edmonton, hence my application to you. I look forward to discussing the contribution I could make to Tutor Teach by filling the role of Tutor.
