I am applying to be one of your Featured Creators as a visual artist. For many of the submissions I make, I create a webpage and am doing the same for this proposal. I do reserve the right to modify the web page but it will, essentially, contain the information I provide in this letter.
I’ll start with the requirements:
I am currently a resident of the Greater Edmonton Area (you might define this) and am living in the Hope Mission’s Herb Jamieson Centre. Being homeless has affected and informed my life experience. While I’ve had experiences you might call negative, for example my van window was smashed in and my cameras stolen, I maintain that all my life experience is my choice and I am never a victim. This life philosophy informs my life and my art, whether it be music, writing or visual art.
My homeless experience partially led me to run for the position of City Councillor in the O-day’min ward and, if you feel it relevant to this application, I invite you to visit my web page created to outline my platform YEG2025 |.
I am a Canadian citizen, born and raised in Edmonton.
One of my photographs, Spool on the Water, was featured in your Flow exhibition, which ran from September 10 to November 30, 2023.
I have done some volunteer work for the Latitude 53 Gallery and participated in some workshops. I am in receipt of their newsletter and have applied to the call for submissions for Call for Artists│Artist Civil Service — Latitude 53 and am waiting to hear their response.
I am always working on art that I hope will find a buyer or be exhibited but, for me, the primary reason I create is to enjoy the process of making something. Here’s a gallery of some of my recent work, which includes some nods to the Banksy exhibit that’s ongoing until January 2026.
During my period of homelessness, I’ve relied heavily on the library as a location where I can continue to explore my artistic interests and I’d be pleased to work with library staff to arrange a workshop to help inspire others to create.
