Please consider me in your search for a Photographer/Videographer.
I have extensive experience with photography, videography, marketing, advertising and commercial writing.
I have always had a camera in my hand. I completed my Education degree at the U of A, with a major in Art Education. I studied visual communications, which included photography and darkroom work. For my last two years of study, I was a feature writer and production editor for the Students’ Union Gateway.
After graduation, I joined The University of Calgary as a Communications Officer II. As co-editor of the U of C bi-weekly, Gazette, I researched and wrote news and feature articles and often delivered technical information to a more general audience. I also profiled staff members and supplied photography, illustration and design skills.
After almost five years with the U of C, I accepted a position as a Journalism Instructor at Grant MacEwan, where I taught photography and graphic design. One of my photographs was added to the college’s permanent collection.
Moving to Vancouver, I joined Southam Business Communications as Western Editor for Canadian Forest Industries Magazine, providing copy on all aspects of the business including harvesting, safety and milling. I then settled in Nanaimo writing for The Nanaimo Business Examiner and Nanaimo Daily Free Press.
My Nanaimo experience also included five years operating a Val-Pak franchise. I worked with medium to small businesses, including auto dealerships, to develop, implement and analyze direct-mail advertising campaigns.
As Marketing Manager for forest equipment manufacturer T-MAR Industries, my duties included photographing inventory and placement on the company’s website; producing advertising copy, brochures and videos; conducting customer surveys and launching the company’s newsletter, The T-MAR Times.
A downturn in the industry led to 10 years overseas teaching in Libya, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Norway, the UAE and Japan. In addition to producing videos of graduation ceremonies, I also produced a student illustrated video of my children’s story, The Apple of Albert’s Eye. Another highlight of my time overseas is the production of my film Truck Logging in Africa and my video application for the position of Traveling Ambassador for Air Transat. In both of these videos, I provided narration.
Returning to Canada in 2012, I relocated to Prince George, BC and launched my WordPress website to highlight my creative abilities in writing, photography, art, music and video production. I am experienced in Office, WordPress, Illustrator and Photoshop. I currently video edit on a PC platform using the latest Vegas Pro software (which allows for direct uploading to Vimeo and YouTube) but I have used the Apple platform and Final Cut Pro. I have, as required, a class 5 license.
I believe have the qualities and skills you are looking for to fill this role. Accordingly, let me suggest we meet to discuss the contribution I could make to your organization in filling this position.
