As my resume details, I have experience researching topics and generating ideas for content for a number of organizations in a variety of industries.

As co-editor of the U of C’s bi-weekly, Gazette, I researched and wrote copy on virtually all Faculties and sought to present technical concepts in an engaging way. My article, New ways to slice the mapping pie, and its accompanying commissioned illustration is an example I also profiled new staff members, like Beatrice Medicine, and supplied photography, illustration and design skills.

 After a brief stint teaching Journalism, I moved to Vancouver where, as Western Editor for Canadian Forest Industries Magazine, I researched and wrote about all aspects of the industry, including harvesting, safety and milling.

Settling in Nanaimo, I freelanced as a weekly reporter for The Nanaimo Business Examiner, writing business-related articles on, for example, innovations in underwater cameras. My Nanaimo experience also included operating my own direct-mail advertising franchise, where I helped small and medium sized businesses implement and analyze marketing campaigns. As Marketing Manager for forest equipment manufacturer T-MAR Industries in Campbell River, my duties included conducting customer surveys; producing advertising copy, brochures and videos; and launching the company’s newsletter, The T-MAR Times.

In all of the above positions, I also provided my photography, illustration and design skills.

In 2002, I began 10 years teaching in Libya, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Norway, the UAE and Japan. In that time, I developed teaching materials using language carefully chosen for ESL students that ranged in age from grade-three to adult and referenced the Irish Leaving Certificate, IGCSE, International Baccalaureate and other teaching curricula. Highlights of this period include the co-authoring of a series of mathematics workbooks for vocational students and a number of video productions, including my video application for the position of Traveling Ambassador for Air Transat, shot on a ski hill in Dubai.

Returning to Canada in 2012, launched my WordPress website to highlight my creative abilities in writing, photography, art, music and video production. I use my website, blog and twitter account to promote my belief in a more positive world. I have a working knowledge of MS Office, Illustrator and Photoshop and have used a number of video editing programs.
